Alice’s Bagels

So Sundays used to be bleh days for food. I’d wake up around 12 and it would be too late for most breakfast foodcarts as most are closed by this time, and then all the foodcarts downtown would be closed because downtown foodcarts are rarely open on weekends.

Then I realized that almost all of the foodcarts at the Good Food Here pod on SE Belmont at SE 43rd are open on Sunday and one of them is this cute little place called Alice’s Bagels! And it made my Sundays so much better [or at least tastier].

Basically this place has super tasty bagels (particularly the salt bagel!) and serves them alone anddd as fried egg sandwiches.

Julia got the #5, “Maple butter, Frank’s Red Hot, cheddar fried egg sandwich with bacon” [first pic], Joe got the #1, just cheese and fried egg [second bagel pic]..

and I got the #2 which is “Avocado, cilantro, Sriracha mayo, pickled onions and fried egg” on a salt bagel. IT LITERALLY WAS THE BEST BAGEL/SANDWICH I’VE EVER HAD. look at the photo i posted of it, doesnt it look tasty? really. i want one now, now that i’m thinking about it again…

Julia and Joe both liked theirs a lot too, but i swear to god you should get the #2. do it.

Until The Ribbon Breaks

Until The Ribbon Break’s song Pressure is yet another song that I am disappointed in myself for not posting earlier. I found it a fair-amount-of-time ago but it somehow slipped my mind, but then about a month ago, they released a remix of an Of Monsters & Men song, ‘King & Lionheart’ and I realized that now I really needed to post about them.

So basically this is a fair bit different from most of the stuff I post about, its a bit more experimental, less violin-y and melodic-y, but still has amazing and interesting beats. Also, the two songs are quite different from each other. Pressure is a bit R&B-esque with very soothing vocals and has a lot of different pieces to it, King & Lionheart is much more focused on the beats.

listen listen 🙂

Until The Ribbon Breaks- Pressure

Of Monsters & Men- King & Lionheart (Until The Ribbon Breaks Remix)

Some beautiful latenight music here.. since its beautiful music and its late at night 🙂

Basically, I feel like I should have discovered Kinack sooner than I did considering his main album, Ondas, has been out for a year. But unfortunately for me, I did not. But now I have! and its wonderful! and very very similar to emancipator and bonobo, which as shown in my previous posts, are two of my favorite artists.

therefore… this places Kinack way up there too.

Also, all of his songs are available for free download from his bandcamp, just follow the “buy” link on the soundcloud thing. Its great.

This here is my favorite song, but honestly the entire album is just so perfect.

Kinack- Mossback:

Actually, this post should just be titled Hiatus, because I love all of their stuff and think absolutely all of it should be listened to [plus half of their music is available for free download from their soundcloud, which always just makes me bright and happy]

But this song, Third is my favorite. Its so beautiful and just calms me down with its perfect mixture of downtempo beats and pretty piano melodies

Also, Max Cooper did a remix of it that is equally enjoyable and has a very watchable and lovely music video that is very similar and in the same style as the Sun glitters music video i posted a while back.

The Acronyms/DJ Speck

So, I actually have a plethora of musical friends. And this is another one of them. Alec (DJ Speck) is the half of The Acronyms that produces the music and does the electronic beats and that side of things. He is quite talented, and in addition to this album, he also plays saxophone in The Goddamn Band, an indie-folky-rock group […i really don’t know my non-electronic music sub genres], and produces his own electronic music. I’m used to hearing just his electronic music, but he recently teamed up with one of his other friends who raps to create a new hip-hop album. [which is available for free download on their bandcamp!]

Different than the usual stuff I post, but still really great!

The below two are my favorite two songs off the album… i particularly like the little dee-dee-dee-dee synth-y rift in the back of D.R.E.A.M.

The Acronyms- M.A.T.H. (Musical Artists Tripping Hard)

The Acronyms- D.R.E.A.M. (Drums Rule Everything Around Me)

And here’s one of his electronic songs:

Pasta Cacio e Pepe

Another pasta recipe 🙂 This one is super simple, super fast, and super delicious. Cacio e pepe is essentially cheese and pepper but its even tastier than it sounds.

First you measure out however much dry pasta you want in a bowl, throw it in some salted boiling water and let it cook until al dente. While thats going, add 2 Tbsp of butter to a skillet and once its melted add 1 tsp of fresh black pepper and cook until it looks about toasted.

Once the pasta is done, strain it, but keep 1/2 cup of the pasta water and add it to the butter/pepper in the skillet. While this is simmering, grate 1.5 cups of cheese (half Grana Padano/Parmesean/Asiago, and half Pecorino/a strong Reggiano).

Add the Pasta to the skillet with the grated cheese and another Tbsp of butter and stir until everything is melted.

Top with fresh cheese and eat!

cacio e pepe

You’re normally supposed to use spaghetti or buccatini or linguini or some other long noodle, but I had a ton of Orecchietee and its my favorite type of pasta so I went with that instead. It was still incredibly delicious and a perfect 10 minute lunch.

Banks’ Remixes

I can’t believe I haven’t posted about these remixes yet. I seriously can’t believe it. These have been two of my favorite songs for the past 6 months. Oh well, its about time. Basically Banks does incredible electronica remixes of trip-hop songs. He, Bonobo, and Andreya Triana seem to be somehow connected as the first song, Bonobo’s The Keeper includes Andreya Triana’s vocals and appears on Bonobo’s Black Sands remixed album. It has the most complex and beautiful layers, so addicting.

Bonobo- The Keeper (Banks remix)

This second song is a remix of Andreya Triana and has the same layered feeling that I love so much. Seriously, this is some beautiful music.

Andreya Triana- Lost Where I Belong (Banks remix)

Gahh I can’t believe I haven’t posted about this. Go listen to these. Over and Over and Over.
