Amandine Insensible/Undress

I’ve decided its finally time to resurrect this old blog. My life has been feeling a little dry lately, and the last time I posted seriously on this blog, my life was filled with inspiration and creativity. So I’m hoping that this return will bring me back in touch with that part of myself.

I’m going to start my return with a couple songs that have made me feel something lately. They both emote the same lethargic but almost pleading feeling with  similar chord progressions, tempos, and haunting vocals (and lyrics). I just really love the ethereal sounds in the vocals and the way they fit with the slow electronica in both songs. Its the sort of music you’d listen to in a beautiful but low-key bar with very dim lighting.

This first song is the more recent of the two. The lyrics seem to pair well with the sort-of stale, idle, and apathetic way i’ve been feeling lately. That makes me sound so sad (which i’m not, i’m just uninspired), but I wouldn’t really describe the song as sad, just as being contemplative.

Sevdaliza- Amandine Insensible:

This second song is a little older, but evokes the same sort of idea as the previous song. Its odd to me how similar they are, but I love them both very much.

Oscar & the Wolf- Undress:

Underneath The Balance (Philip Fuchs Remix)

Another super amazing electronica downtempo song with wonderful beats and a really intriguing voice.

such a delicious little tune

In Golden Tears- Underneath the Balance (Philip Fuchs Remix)

Kodak to Graph

Kodak to Graph is really great, I’m so happy i stumbled upon them. The song Aurescent is basically my favorite song right now, I could listen to it over and over. Their other songs are really great too.

very ambient, with bird chirpings, and beautiful piano parts, and other interesting instrument bits, and just a really soothing and catchy beat, and their other songs have other natural sounds too

songs that mix sounds of nature into downtempo music are basically some of my favorites

oh also, most of their more recent songs (including aurescent) are downloadable 🙂

Kodak to Graph- Aurescent:

Melorman

Soooo melorman has been around for awhile, but I only recently discovered him (sometimes i’m just a bit slow), its really really nice ambient, downtempo electronica… my favorite type of musicaa

But he just released a new album called waves (although some of the songs on it were released as singles earlier) and I just figured out that you can post an entire album from soundcloud in one single file, so I’m gonna try that 🙂 My personal favorites are the 2nd and 4th songs, Girl in the 70’s and Heights

Melorman- Waves Album:

Also some older Melorman… Forget is my favorite song out of all of his stuff. Some of this is freely downloadable tooo

N u a g e s – Dreams

I love songs that incorporate interesting speeches into them (as long as they’re good songs of course). Often these are Alan Watts speeches. and this is definitely one of them.

I like the messages and i love the music. seriously, its beautiful and chilling and perfectly haunting and just really really pleasing to listen to.

N u a g e s- Dreams:

Thyme- Voyager (ft. American Folly)

This is a really great song. Like really really great. It’s the perfect combination of ambient and super interesting and complex and just has a really great beat too. It makes me super happy.

I love complex songs, ones where there are lots of little layers so much. it keeps me interested. Their soundcloud lists the song as “future garage” which is certainly a genre I don’t usually consider, but whatever works!

The beat kind of reminds me of some of Burial’s stuff. actually a lot of it reminds me a bit of Burial.

andddd they have a free download option on their soundcloud. that always makes me smile 🙂

Ghosts of Paraguay

More late night music 🙂 it seems to be a theme lately… mostly because thats when i’m busy procrastinating the studying i should be doing.

Anyhu, Ghosts of Paraguay are wonderful. Seriously wonderful. So wonderful that I cant just choose one or two of their songs to post about but need to link to FOUR songs! four! also, fours my lucky number so that makes Ghosts of Paraguay even more special.

Basically, they’re kindof downtempo-y, kindof dubstep-y, kindof ambient, kindof experimental.. and all of their songs sound different too, some are trip-hop, some are more dubstep, some are more chillwave. I would say that the songs below are in no particular order, but that would be a lie because the first song is my absolute favorite. Its one of those songs I could just listen to over and over and be so completely content and it has the perfect amount of ambience and glitch. after that though, its in no particular order.

Also, some of them are downloadable for free off soundcloud!

Two Thirds & Faint-Epiphany (Ghosts Of Paraguay Mix):

This is a more low-key flowy song…

Ghosts of Paraguay- Piano Piece:

This is one of their louder, more dubstep based songs…

Ghosts of Paraguay- Perfect Sky:

This final song is a remix of one of their songs, but its fairly similar to the original, just a little more downtempo-y. originals good too!…

Ghosts of Paraguay- Needing You (Kaiori Breathe Remix)

Honestly, all of their songs are worth listening to, if you ask me

Kinack-Mossback

Some beautiful latenight music here.. since its beautiful music and its late at night 🙂

Basically, I feel like I should have discovered Kinack sooner than I did considering his main album, Ondas, has been out for a year. But unfortunately for me, I did not. But now I have! and its wonderful! and very very similar to emancipator and bonobo, which as shown in my previous posts, are two of my favorite artists.

therefore… this places Kinack way up there too.

Also, all of his songs are available for free download from his bandcamp, just follow the “buy” link on the soundcloud thing. Its great.

This here is my favorite song, but honestly the entire album is just so perfect.

Kinack- Mossback:

Hiatus-Third

Actually, this post should just be titled Hiatus, because I love all of their stuff and think absolutely all of it should be listened to [plus half of their music is available for free download from their soundcloud, which always just makes me bright and happy]

But this song, Third is my favorite. Its so beautiful and just calms me down with its perfect mixture of downtempo beats and pretty piano melodies

Hiatus-Third:

Also, Max Cooper did a remix of it that is equally enjoyable and has a very watchable and lovely music video that is very similar and in the same style as the Sun glitters music video i posted a while back.

Hiatus- Third (Max Cooper Remix)

Flower Petal Downpour

So one of my closer friends in Portland, Gavin, makes beautiful beautiful downtempo electronica, on the edge of chill-wave. He goes by the artist name Flower Petal Downpour, a quite appropriate name. Its perfect Portland music, when its raining outside and you just want to chill out and relax.. yet it is fairly upbeat and manages to counteract the depressing-ness of the constant gray sky quite nicely.

A couple months ago, he was recommending artists to me and started playing a song and I was impressed and asked him who it was, only to have him say it was one of his own projects he was working on… soo now that project is up on his soundcloud and bandcamp and its lovely, including the album artwork.. thats quite lovely in itself.

heres a couple of his songs, go listen to all of them on his soundcloud and then go download them [for free!] from his bandcamp 🙂
